12/14/2007 7:59 AM:  Google Maps- No GPS...no problem!

A few weeks ago I posted that Microsoft had released a new version of their Live Search which included voice recognition...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: grin Well, Google have gone one better and launched Google Maps 2.0 Beta that includes "My Location". If you don't have a GPS unit, the application can utilize the wireless cell towers to pinpoint your location to within a few kilometers (more often than not, within 1000 meters). I played with the feature on my way home yesterday and was amazed at the accuracy as I travelled down the freeway! GibbsUSA.net smilie: shocked

This competition between Google and Microsoft is great- with the consumers actually winning here! Now we need to combine all good the features from both applications into one amazing mapping/ location finding product...for FREE of course! GibbsUSA.net smilie: coolguy

12/12/2007 8:10 AM:  MS Voice Command- Impressed!

GibbsUSA.net smilie: oh I was playing with my wifes new phone the other night and trying to work out how to use the hands free dialing- my phone has a small application that requires you to put "voice tags" on the contacts/ applications you want to call/ run. Well, it turns out that her phone has MS Voice Command built into the OS...and after getting it to read me the appointments for today and tomorrow, look up a number and play media I was impressed...

Looking around, I soon found that the new version (1.6) is available and runs on WM5...so I bought it...GibbsUSA.net smilie: tongue

Turns out that (apart from being a little memory intensive) the application is EXACTLY the same as on her phone- I have been playing with it non-stop and I have to admit that the new voice recognition works well even with the British accent...now if only it would read the tasks that are due... GibbsUSA.net smilie: coolguy

12/6/2007 7:28 AM:  Bought the T-Mobile Shadow

GibbsUSA.net smilie: smile As I thought, my wife really liked the T-Mobile Shadow when we went to see it- even I was impressed with the new interface and simplicity of the main features while still allowing for the Smartphone WM6 functionality if needed...so I bought her one!

It arrived yesterday and within an hour we had it fully sync'd with our Exchange Server, set her profile and had it all ready to go...and it is a sexy looking phone...the only question is, should I get one for myself? GibbsUSA.net smilie: confused
