1/21/2005 2:46 PM:  Pocket TV Listings...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: grumpy A friend has been bugging me (and you know who you are) about putting a note here regarding the free Pocket TV Listings application from PTVL...so here it is...GibbsUSA.net smilie: grin

The application utilizes the TV listings from Zap2It.com which requires an account to be created. The account creation is free but requires answering a few marketing questions and account renewal every 3 months. GibbsUSA.net smilie: weeping

The application works well and with the PC based Weblink, downloads quickly. It has an ActiveSync add-in which processes the PC based data to the Pocket PC. In all, this is a nice piece of software- especially noting the price...FREE! GibbsUSA.net smilie: smile

1/14/2005 3:27 PM:  A day for blogs...the HTC Magician...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: grin Phew, what a day this has been for blogs, eh?
There is a great review of the HTC Magician (aka Xda Mini/ HTC Magician/ i-mate JAM/Qtek s100/MDA Compact) that I just had to read through...as the smallest Pocket PC Phone on the market- it is a nice device!

This is, IMHO, the move that Pocket PC Phone manufacturers need to do- become smaller...I thought the Motorola MPx would become a world market first, but this device (and those to follow) only go to prove that 2005 is going to be a GREAT year...

1/14/2005 11:50 AM:  Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: confused While playing with my new system, I noticed that the Bluetooth drivers for my Belkin BT USB did not show all the options that the driver provided.
After doing some research, it turns out that this is due to the Microsoft Driver signing implementation and they have a support article on this.
To work around this issue and to successfully install the third-party driver for your Bluetooth adapter perform the following:

Rename the Bth.inf file
Rename the %WINDIR%\inf\Bth.inf file to Bth.bak before you install or reinstall the third-party device or stack. When you rename the file, you prevent Windows Plug and Play PNP from using that INF file to install the Bluetooth driver that is included with Windows XP SP2. To rename the file, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\inf in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. Right-click Bth.inf, and then click Rename. 3. Rename Bth.inf to Bth.bak, and then press ENTER. 4. Install the third-party Bluetooth driver.

After doing this, I was able to pair my headset, audio gateway and PDA as normal...good old MS! GibbsUSA.net smilie: wink

1/14/2005 11:34 AM:  Microsoft ActiveSync 3.8 available...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: grin Microsoft have released ActiveSync 3.8.
This is their latest synchronization software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and Smartphones. ActiveSync 3.8 contains a set of security enhancements that provide a more secure syncing experience with a Windows PC, specifically:
Windows XP SP2 security pop up warnings that appear the first time a Windows Mobile devices is docked have been eliminated.
Remote PC Sync (via Wifi or LAN) is turned off by default. However, users can turn this functionality back on by navigating to File > Connection Settings and checking "Allow network (Ethernet)..."
