4/28/2008 2:42 PM:  The forgetful little tooth fairy...

Hannah lost her second tooth on Saturday and to our shame, the tooth fairy forgot to take it during the night...the disappointment in her face when she told us (at 6am on Sunday morning!) was heart-breaking... GibbsUSA.net smilie: yikes

Fortunately, while she was getting a drink of water at 7am, the fairy sneaked in and took her tooth, replacing it with the customary monetary reward...GibbsUSA.net smilie: tongue. The smile when she found it was beaming...

How we got away with that I will never know...won't happen again though (lesson learned)...GibbsUSA.net smilie: sad

GibbsUSA.net smilie: smile A big THANK YOU to all our friends around the world who helped with Hannah's school "Flat Stanley" project...we have some great photos of him in various places...

I have to admit, we had fun with the whole idea- there is even information on Wikipedia...it is amazing all those that have actively participated in the program! GibbsUSA.net smilie: grin

4/23/2008 10:46 AM:  Happy St. George's Day...

GibbsUSA.net smilie: smile A little know day outside of England, but today is St. George's Day- patron saint of England!

[Quote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_George's_Day#St._George.27s_Day_in_England]
St. George's Day is celebrated by several nations of which Saint George is the patron saint, including England, Portugal, Georgia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Republic of Macedonia, as well as the region of Catalonia (Spain) and the city of Moscow. For England, St. George's Day also marks its National Day. Most countries who observe St. George's Day, celebrate it on April 23, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in 303 AD. St. George's Day is a provincial government holiday in Newfoundland, Canada.

For those Eastern Orthodox Churches that follow the Julian Calendar (the Old calendarists), the April 23 (Julian Calendar) date of St George's Day falls on May 6 of the Gregorian Calendar in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Besides the April 23 feast, some Orthodox Churches have additional feasts dedicated to St George. The country of Georgia celebrates the feast St George on November 10 (Julian Calendar), which currently falls on November 23 (Gregorian Calendar). The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the dedication of the Church of St George in Kiev by Yaroslav I the Wise in 1051 on November 26 (Julian Calendar), which currently falls on the Gregorian December 9.

The Scout movement has been celebrating St. George's Day on April 23 since its first years.
