| 10/31/2006 7:41 AM: | | Happy Halloween...
We made it back from our camping trip without incident- and had a nice "mini" break in the process. The weather was perfect during the day but a little cool during the night. That said, it is always nice to get away from it all once in a while!
So here we are- Halloween. The kids are excited about getting dressed up later today (I'm sure that all the potential candy has something to do with it too). Hopefully we'll get some good pictures to post on the web.
From all of us at GibbsUSA.net, have a safe and enjoyable evening!

| | 10/26/2006 6:53 PM: | | My first email blog...
Here I am sat on the van going home from work and I thought to myself..."Why not try the email to blog function that I have just completed?"... after all the journey home is some 90 minutes...so here it is!
Our preparations for Halloween are complete, the lights are brightly illuminating the front yard in a gloomy Halloween fashion. I don't miss the English tradition of "Mischievous Night" but I do miss "Bonfire Night"...but the enthusiasm that Americans have for the "Trick or Treat" evening far outweighs my melancholy.
Between now and then, we are going camping again. The girls love it and I think Michaela enjoys the time away from the house too. With the weather now a lot cooler in the evenings (high 60's) and the fire restrictions gone I have to admit that even I cannot wish the work days past fast enough...
Well that is enough for now (it's not that easy typing on the MDA while the van is in motion)...but it has passed 30 minutes...time to catch 40 winks..;)

| | 10/26/2006 3:33 PM: | | Been a bit busy...
It has been a long time since I have done any work on the site- mainly because I am overwhelmed by the amount of work I need to do to convert it all. That said, I have done some more work on the blog section.
It now allows for 'Searching' (with highlighting) and a better organized 'Archive' component. Both of these can be seen to the left of the blog text.
In addition, to better prepare this as a turnkey solution, I have added functionality that monitors a POP mail account and converts the inbox messages into blog postings (in the correct section of course ).
Who knows, maybe this will encourage me to post a little more often?

| | 10/21/2006 6:34 PM: | | IE7, Windows Live etc.
I was impressed over the past year on the progress that Google have made to their homepage- this is finally delivering a "portal" technology that can be completely customized to the user preference.
Well, I had some spare time today so I reviewed the new offering from Microsoft- Windows Live.
In typical Microsoft style, they have taken what Google did and, in my own opinion, actually improved it!!!
There are deeper connotations to all of this- companies offering services such as these are now really thinking about the users...and this can only be a good thing!
All that said, I have to ask myself "Why are Microsoft pushing IE7 as a critical patch???"...You would think that it should be a "users" choice...
I guess, all said and done, this is showing me that it is time to do a major overhaul of our web site...it's just finding the time!!!
