10/5/2007 9:03 AM: Our site was hacked!!!

GibbsUSA.net smilie: angry Our site has experienced a drop in ratings over the past couple of days and, after doing some research, I found out that our site had been hacked and an iframe tag put on the default home page that linked to "google (dash) counter dot com". At first, I thought that this was a new monitoring option from Google but it turns out this is a site that automatically downloads software (malware)!!! GibbsUSA.net smilie: irked

How the hacker got the password for the site is, as yet, unknown but I did receive an email from our hosting company recently "advising" customers to change their password- no mention of why...and I was stupid enough not to change it...BAD MOVE!!! GibbsUSA.net smilie: sad

While the damage has already been done on our ratings, we are currently working very hard to gain back our standings with the search engine parties etc. Rest assured that all the "hacked" links have been removed and security on the site improved. For anyone who got caught in their trap, I apologize!!! GibbsUSA.net smilie: crying
